"The Most Performing Ensemble in All of Classical Music"

SBQ WELCOMES GREG LLOYD!

Joining SBQ as the new second trumpeter, Greg Lloyd is anything but new to SBQ. Greg's first experience with Synergy was in 2003. Greg at the time was a high school student attending the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, a summer music program for elite high school age students. At the time, SBQ was quintet in residence. Bobby Thorp remembers Greg as "... a vivacious, excited and extremely driven music student." After Greg graduated high school, he continued his studies at Boston University where he studied with Terry Everson. At the that time some of the SBQ members were finishing up degrees at BU and took Greg on as a periodic intern. Shortly after, SBQ and Greg parted ways as SBQ's tour schedule took off and Lloyd movedĀ  on to London England where he attended classes at the Royal College of Music.

While in London, Greg worked as a free-lancer and performed with many of London's finest ensembles including the London Philharmonic. Greg's next move was to North Carolina where he continued his studies at the University of North Carolina School for the Arts. While at UNCSA Greg studied with Judith Saxton and worked in the surrounding area as a free-lance trumpeter and trumpet teacher. While completing his masters degree, Greg performed with the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Greensboro Philharmonic and the Savannah Philharmonic.

Spring, 2008, long time trumpeter Chris O'Hara decided to leave the ensemble to persue a lucrative career as a soloist and focus on spending time with his family. SBQ held one round of international auditions and welcomed Rachel Rodreguez into the group. After touring with SBQ for the better part of a year, Rachel moved on to teach at Northern Kentucky University and SBQ was held another round of auditions in the Spring of 2009. Greg won the audition and joined SBQ as second trumpeter in June of 2009.

Since joining SBQ, Greg has performed in over 30 engagements with SBQ and has started a hilarious new education series called "Enter the Trumpet Dojo". The series tackles a range of topics related to brass playing and presents them in an entertaining faux "Kung-Fu" format. Greg is also finishing several arrangements for SBQ's upcoming CD, tentatively scheduled to release Spring of 2010.
